Lie. Most Southern Dems remained within the fold of the Democrat party. The South would still remain Democrat for the next 30 years. When the south finally became Republican, it was due to CONSERVATIVE fiscal and social issues like taxes, government regulations, gun control, abortion, etc), not race issues.

The fact that elected officials stayed in the Democratic Party after the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts misses the point. Millions of CITIZEN Democrats left the Party, just as LBJ said they would. Over the coming decades they moved to support George Wallace and eventually into the Republican Party where they are today. The video is evidence that Republicans do not support diversity TODAY because instead of supporting diversity they peddle lies.
In the early 1960s I was taught in school that “Reconstruction” after the Civil War resulted in Negroes being elected to the Congress who embarrassed themselves by sitting with their feet on the furniture while they ate watermelon and spit the seeds on the Chamber floor. I learned about a year ago that some of those men were intellectual giants. Their writings and speeches are worth looking up and reading. They were Republicans, and were effective in passing civil rights laws at that time.

I live in Texas, have family members who were all democrats until the civil rights movement. They believed in states rights, Jim Crow Laws, and separate but equal. They have never forgiven the Democratic party for supporting Civil Rights. They are all currently Republicans…
for more proof google the Governors of each southern state, I did the searches and found out that they were almost all democrats until well after the Civil Rights Act, when the Democrats couldn’t keep Black people down any longer they decided to try and buy them, sadly it did work in so many cases
I hope everyone wakes up to the truth about the democrat party. I am 19 and have always held the democrats to a lower standard than common crminals and I am proud of it. God bless America. If anyone wants to tell me I am wrong I would prefer you do a little research preferably unbiased research.

I disagree, if providing historical information is propaganda then count me as a propaganda. The conventional wisdom is the Us parties swtiched after the 60′s and that is a point of view but there is plenty of informaiton to contradict and to add greater context to such a simplified explanation. Racism runs rampant but neither party is “more” racist than the other. If you look at the history of the political parties, there’s not much in a name. FDR was a Democrat, the more conservative party of his day, but was extremely liberal. Nixon embraced environmental issues, LBJ took a conflict in Vietnam and made it into a war, and Jimmy Carter was a Democrat who appealed to Christians and conservative southerners. This video, like much recent news coverage, is propaganda intended to divide us.

I can clarify – before 1950, the south was filled w/ Democrats (Democrats dominated the South until after the civil rights act). Post civil rights act, every Republican nominee (for President) won the South — except Carter. Before civil rights = Democrats won the South. After civil rights: Republicans won the south. So it’s pretty clear the Republicans and Democrats switched sides, right? What else explains how the Solid South suddenly went Republican and the north suddenly went for Democrats?

Excuse me? What YOU are stating is an opinion, the truth and FACTS are that the South was run by the Democrat Party almost exclusively from before the civil war all the way through to about the end of the 80′s.

Beginning in the 1940s the southern states (the “Solid South”) saw a split among Democrats, some remaining Democrats, others, such as Strom Thurmond, labeled themselves Dixiecrats. From Reconstruction up until civil rights, Democrats owned the south. After LBJ and the civil rights act, only one candidate won the south (Carter). When we talk about “switching parties,” this is what we’re talking about. Your video is misleading propaganda.
If you are evil enough to start the KKK, you are evil enough to dump your crimes on somebody else’s doorstep. Democrats are the masters of projection.
Just as a side note, Strom Thurmond integrated his staff after switching parties, and had at least one bi-racial daughter. I wouldn’t call him a racists as much as he was a political opportunist.
