Algae plan-completed in 8 to 10 years at least, cost trillions, if the libs have been complaining it would take 5 years to drill for 30 years, we would be done by now if we did drill, algae is not a solution to the gas problem.
If you people did your research you would know that this is not obamas idea this is a well established industry that is rapidly growing. Algae companies are now able to produce ethanol, gasoline, diesel, butanol, hydrogen or methanol all for under 3$/gal. The problem is that algae growers find it to be more lucrative to grow algae for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and health food industries than for fuels. This is started to change as demand for fuel goes up and algatech evolves
Algae can produce 5,000 to 100,000 gallons of fuel per acre per year depending on the growth, harvesting and processing methods used and fuel types. It also makes food, fertilizers, pkastics, building materials, concrete, fabric, paper, cosmetics, medicines, nutritional supplements, animal feed, and algae consume almost all forms of waste co2, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, silica, etc, and convert it into biomass that van be converted into almost any type of energy and material.
