THIS GUY IS SCUM , THEOCRACY IS COMING WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT , WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT , AND YOUR CONSTITUTION YOUR SO CALLED RIGHTS WONT SAVE YOU FROM THE SURE FUTURE .
EITHER WAY YOU ALL LOSE
I say if we pick a Theocracy … let’s choose Amish! In for a penny, in for a pound.
Funny because Newt’s conduct is probably the scummiest of scum.
Your definition of semantic also seems to be lacking. Pointing out a difference in meaning and context between two words is not a semantic point when discussing a definition.
Again you waste my time with pointless semantics. Should I just take it as a given that you have nothing to say about the actual point and are being a semantical douchebag just because it’s the only thing you -can- address? Neverminding for the moment that you’re using ‘respect’ incorrectly at worst, and in an entirely confusing context as best when a better word is available?
Yes, I am going to take it as a given, because I gave you a chance to correct the course and you ignored it.
Civility has a different meaning again.
Your analogy is flawed in that H20 is water. The definition of the term, “respect” changes depending on context, water does not.
All human beings are not worthy of esteem. All human beings deserve to have their basic civil and human rights respected. Context.
yeah down with the constitution!
there is no god and if you think there is youre a fucking fool. all religions are cults, all the leaders are bastards deserving of oppression and punishment and all the followers subhuman moronic retards.
You may as well be saying you like water but hate H2O. You’re using similar words in different and conflicting contexts. You’d be doing yourself a favor if you swapped what you’re using ‘respect’ for with ‘civility’. It fits better and doesn’t lead to distracting confusion of this sort. In any case, you agree with me and have been ignoring my bigger point for this futile semantics issue.
You quoted the definition I was replacing it with.
Esteem is earned, respect is given. The terms are partially interchangeable but the meanings are not.
Well, yeah. Because one of the definitions of respect is “the condition of being -esteemed- or honored”
Another is “-esteem- for or a sense of the worth or excellence”.
Yet another is “deference to a right, privilege, privileged position, or someone or something considered to have certain rights or privileges”.
The only thing that comes close to what you’re suggesting is “proper acceptance or courtesy”, and I agree, but that’s being civil. The question is, what are -you- replacing it with?
I think the problem is you’re replacing the word “esteem” with respect. Esteem is earned. All human beings (and animals) are entitled to a basic level of respect in civilized societies.
I know it does, and that’s why I specifically didn’t offer any details on the kind of criteria. I don’t think it’s something that can be covered in 500 characters.
But when I discuss this, I usually go to the example of “There’s a heat wave. You have a 6-month infant in your car. You need to run into the story to buy something. Do you leave your infant in the car and promise yourself to make it quick? Y/N”.
But respect is to be earned, not ‘due’. Get along, until they earn it or blow it.
Sounds like the making for a dictatorship. Who gets to select the criteria for competency?
I don’t particularly like stupid people. I still acknowledge that they’re human beings and due the same basic respect and rights as I am.
Yes, well, that’s great and all, but “clinically insane” doesn’t cover the “dumber than a concussed puppy” demographic. See above re: basic competency test.
Criminals and the clinically insane are already barred from voting.
We have laws against suicide.
We take children away from parents who feed their kids wrong or beat them or deny them medical care (except in some but not all religiously-motivated cases).
Everyone -should- have the right to vote, but there’s really nothing wrong with having a basic competency test before you get to do it.
Sure, it’d be tricky to make sure it doesn’t discriminate against specific groups, but I think “Not out of their goddamn mind” is a good basic requirement, don’t you?
Newt Gingrich is a total disgrace.
I agree with you. they are still morons though.
Religion was created during humanity’s immaturity
Religion is a disease.
@AntitheistPOV it was tongue in cheek but its still a terrible reason to vote for someone!
Why? If people want someone like Gingrich representing them they have just as much right to make that choice as you do not to.
